Frequently asked questions
When should a timing belt be replaced?
Follow your logbook – many cars are between 60,000 and 160,000 km or a set number of years, whichever comes first. If the history is unknown, replacing it is cheap insurance.
Do timing chains need replacing?
Chains are designed to last much longer, but some engines are known for chain stretch. A rattle on cold start or timing codes means it should be checked.
Can I keep driving with a worn timing chain?
It’s a risk – if it jumps a tooth or breaks, the valves can hit the pistons. Book an inspection; if it’s not safe to drive, call us first and we’ll tell you the safest way to get it to us.
How long does a timing belt job take?
Usually one day, depending on the engine. We’ll give you a fixed quote and time before we start.
