Why DPFs block up
Short trips
The DPF needs regular highway driving to burn off soot. Lots of short city trips stop regeneration finishing.
Underlying faults
Faulty sensors, EGR, injectors or turbo problems create extra soot – we fix the cause, not just the symptom.
Wrong oil
Diesels with a DPF need low-ash oil to specification – the wrong oil shortens DPF life.

Frequently asked questions
My DPF light is on – what should I do?
Often a 20–30 minute drive at steady highway speed lets the DPF regenerate. If the light stays on, flashes, or the car goes into limp mode, book a diagnostic – or call us first and we’ll tell you the safest way to get it to us.
Can a blocked DPF be cleaned?
Often yes. We check soot and ash levels first: some DPFs can be regenerated or cleaned; if the ash load is too high it needs replacing. We’ll show you the readings and quote.
What does the EGR valve do?
It recirculates some exhaust gas to reduce emissions. When it sticks with carbon you can get loss of power, rough idle, smoke or a warning light.
